Brother to Brother

Brother to Brother is a feature-length drama that follows the emotional and psychological journey of Perry, a young black gay artist who discovers the hidden legacies of the gay and lesbian subcultures within the Harlem Renaissance.

After being found in an intimate, sexual encounter with another young man, Perry is thrown out of his home by his family and forced to survive on his own. He struggles to come to terms with his family's rejection and his homosexuality, while maintaining his college scholarship.

Whilst working in the homeless shelter he befriends Bruce, an elderly man, and they embark upon a metaphorical and literal journey through Bruce's memories and immerse themselves in the glory days of the Harlem Renaissance. Perry is taken into a world that is both fascinating and absorbing. He learns about the feisty personalities of Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston and Wallace Thurman. This piece of history empowers Perry to overcome his struggles and gain a stronger sense of identity.

The director innovatively interweaves the present with the 1920s through flashbacks, poetry and prolific storytelling. Brother to Brother pays homage to a history that is rarely told.
